Scheduled Kiosk Lockdowns
Updated
by Isabella Gumm
What Is a Scheduled Lockdown?
A scheduled lockdown automatically closes your kiosk for purchases during a specific window of time, by day of the week and time range. Once set up, the kiosk locks and unlocks on its own, every week, without any manual action required.
Why Use Scheduled Lockdowns?
Previously, closing a kiosk required manually triggering a lockdown in the dashboard and removing it when the window ended. Scheduled lockdowns eliminate that step. If your kiosk needs to be closed during predictable, recurring windows, this feature handles it automatically so you don't have to remember.
This is especially useful if:
- Your kiosk is located inside a café or dining area that closes during certain hours, and you want the kiosk to reflect those hours
- Your kiosk is in a school or campus environment and should be closed during lunch, passing periods, or breaks
- Your kiosk operates in a facility where access is restricted during specific shifts or off-hours
- Your team wants to reduce reliance on manual dashboard intervention for routine closures
Example Use Cases
Café with limited-hour kiosk access: A café that opens at 7 AM wants their Byte kiosk closed while the café itself is open, so customers purchase from the counter instead. They schedule a lockdown from 7 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday. The kiosk opens automatically for after-hours access at 3 PM each day.
School with break-time restrictions: A school wants the kiosk closed during the lunch period to keep students in the cafeteria line. They schedule a lockdown from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Both lockdowns are set once and repeat automatically.
How to Set Up or Remove a Scheduled Lockdown
During the current launch period, scheduled lockdowns are configured by the Byte support team on your behalf.
To request a new scheduled lockdown, a change to an existing one, or removal of a scheduled lockdown, contact us at: support@bytetechnology.co
Please include:
- The kiosk(s) you'd like the schedule applied to
- The day(s) of the week
- The start and end time (and your timezone)
We'll confirm once it's been set up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I set up a scheduled lockdown myself?
Not at this time. During the launch period, all scheduled lockdowns are managed by the Byte support team. If you need a change, just email us.
Can I still manually lock or unlock my kiosk outside of the schedule?
Yes. Manual lockdowns work the same as before and are independent of any scheduled lockdown.
Can different kiosks have different schedules?
Yes. Schedules are set at the individual kiosk level, so each unit in your fleet can have its own lockdown window.
What happens if I want to remove a scheduled lockdown?
Please email support@bytetechnology.co, and we'll remove it.
